Perfect for Valentines Day, the classic red lip is still on trend for 2010.
Luscious red lips have long been a chic and flirtatious symbol of beauty. Just think back to Hollywood Screen Siren Marilyn Monroe with her blonde hair and signature red lips, without doubt the most lusted after lady of all time.
Fast forward and today’s red lipstick tribe include Scarlett Johansson, who could be described as a modern day Marilyn, the queen of pop Madonna, burlesque diva Dita Von-Teese and blonde bombshells Gwen Stefani and Christina Aguilara, these stars are rarely seen without their trademark red lippy.
Picture Perfect Red Lips In 5 Simple Steps
1. To achieve a picture perfect pout your lips need to be in top condition. I use MAC Lip Conditioner Tube £9:00 for my clients, apply liberally with fingers then blot with tissue before applying M.A.C Prep + Prime Lip £10:00 over the entire lip area.
2. You need a completely blank canvas to work with so erase your natural lip colour using a brush loaded with a bit of concealer. I like the M.A.C concealer brush ,no:195, £15:50 and M.A.C Studio Finish concealer, £12:50 but you can use any one you have or apply with a foundation sponge. fix with powder
3. Now time for some colour, line the lips using a finely sharpened pencil. I absolutely love NARS in Jungle Red, £12:00 working from the cupids bow in the centre of the lips use short soft strokes to create a clean edge. Once you’re happy with the shape fill in the entire lip with your red pencil, this will ensure the colour stays put
4. Using your lip brush layer on your red lipstick in a shade that suits your skin tone, try to match your lipstick to your liner, most brands sell corresponding shades . Following suit with my liner I would go for NARS in Semi-Matte Jungle Red, £17:00 load your brush start applying to the centre of the lips and work outwards to cover the entire lip.
5. Finally to create clean edges I use a small firm angled brush and apply concealer around the edges of your lips to clean up any smudges, Bobbi Brown’s eyebrow brush, £20:50 works really well for this
