MAKE-UP MADE EASY
I’m often asked how to properly apply make-up so this month I will be bringing step by step tips to help you achieve a professional make-up look.

These guidelines will work with any type of look, you can use all or just a few of the steps that are included, for example, if you are going for a natural day look you might choose to skip the eyeshadow and eyeliner step. I only use foundation on my clients when necessary, if you have a fairly even skin tone then go without and just use concealer to cover any redness or blemishes. If you want to achieve an on trend dewy skin, mix a small amount of light reflecting moisturiser with a your foundation and apply with a foundation brush.

Remember there are no set rules in make-up so these tips will simply teach you how to best enhance your features using the colours that suit you.

Begin any make-up application by moisturising skin and conditioning lips

It is best to allow your moisturiser time to absorb before you begin applying your foundation.

Use a primer all over your face, including your eyelids, this will give your make-up extra staying power and make it easier to blend, I love Laura Mercier , Foundation Primer £27:00. Apply your foundation using a foundation brush, MAC no:187 is my favourite.

Conceal under the eyes, any blemishes and around the nostrils, I use MAC studio finish £12:50, there are shades to suit every skin tone it gives amazing coverage and also contains an SPF of 35.

Next use the “drop cloth” trick of depositing loose powder across the cheek bones and under the eyes to catch any eye make-up fallout, this will be brushed off later.

Now on to the eyes, to really make your eyes stand out you will need to use three shades of eye shadow, one light, one medium and one dark. There are a huge selection of palettes available with 3-4 colours in that are great for this method, I really like smash box panorama trio palettes which start from £12:99. The lightest shadow is going to go over the entire eye area, from the lash line up to the eyebrow; the medium shade will go across your eyelid from the lash line to slightly beyond the crease. I work with a minimal amount of product on a large shadow brush, it is always easier to add more colour rather than take it away.

Finally the darkest shade will go on the outer corners of the eyelid and into the crease for extra definition, now using a soft eye shadow brush blend, blend, blend until it looks completely seamless.

Depending on your chosen look you can add eyeliner above or below the lash line to defuse any harsh lines use a small soft brush or a cotton bud. You can also add some kohl liner in the inside of your lash line Rimmel Kohl liner £2:99 is brilliant for this.

To open up the eyes and give the lashes length use an eyelash curler and add two coats of mascara top and bottom, The new Falsies Mascara by Maybelline is amazing, you’ll love the price too at just £7:99.The spoon shaped brush really helps fan lashes out, if you make any mistakes simply remove using a cotton bud.

The eyebrows really frame the face and it’s important that they are properly groomed, there are a few choices when it comes to this, plucking, waxing or my personal favourite threading. You should have this done professionally and believe me, once you discover threading you will never look back. Once you have achieved a shape you are happy with take an sharpened eyebrow pencil and fill any gaps using little feather like strokes, use an eyebrow brush to shape and for any unruly hairs use a brow gel, Benefit, speed brow £12:00 is great for this.

Now that the eyes are done you can brush away the excess loose powder which you applied earlier from under the eyes.

Apply a powder blush with a blush brush on the apples of your cheeks, use Les Tissages from CHANEL £30:50. To find the apples of your cheeks, look in the mirror and smile, the rounded pillow area is where you want to apply the blush. Alternatively you can opt for a cream blush which will give a more natural sheeny look.

Highlight your brow bones, the inner corners of your eyes and above your cheekbones using a small fluff brush, a light coloured shimmer shadow such as phloof by MAC £11:00 will double up brilliantly as a highlighter.

Now for the lips, you can just simply apply a gloss DIOR Addict Lip Polish £20:50 smooths lips to perfection. For plumper looking lips apply a small amount of highlighter to your cupids bow and in the center of your bottom lip. If you prefer a more defined look then apply a lip liner and your chosen lip colour with a lip brush. Sometimes one simple change can transform a face, just by using a darker lip colour you add amazing impact. This one easy step takes you from casual to dressy, and from elegantly understated to intense!

Finally a dusting of powder sets everything or if to set without powder use MAC FIX + £11:00

The Swan Kibworth

The Swan - Kibworth

The Swan Kibworth
5 High Street Kibworth Beauchamp Leicester LE8 0LR
(0116) 2796540

Popular weekly Wednesday Steak Night

The restaurant adjoins the lounge bar of The Swan and you soak up the atmosphere from this evidently popular village pub. The pub is full of drinkers and there isn’t a spare table in the restaurant. A wonderful first impression.

The dining area is simple, uncluttered and with that typical country pub charm. Our waitress was prompt and most welcoming despite the numbers in attendance.
For our first course we opted for chicken liver pate with toast and homemade date and apple chutney as well as a prawn cocktail. Both were delicious, generous portions and I have to say the homemade chutney (for sale by the jar) was astounding.

The main course menu offered a range of steaks and we both opted for rump (2 for £13.50!). We were offered a choice of chips, field mushroom and slow-roasted tomato or chips and salad together with a choice of sauces and side orders. Both arrived cooked to perfection.

The menu of homemade desserts was mouth-watering and we eventually opted for the miniatures, a selection of all the desserts on a platter to share.
Finally, we returned to the lounge and sank into a deep leather sofa to enjoy a drink. As we left, the place was getting even busier so we would strongly recommend that you book to avoid any disappointment.
Christmas is around the corner and their Christmas menu looks stunning.

This place is one of those hidden gems that we could not praise deeply enough and should be regarded as a ‘must visit’!

Open All Day Tuesday to Saturday from 10am. Sunday 10am to 4pm

THE COMPLETE PACKAGE!

Sarah and Lino Poli brought us Boboli in May 2007, and it has been something of an evolution I have learnt, beginning with the name taken from Giardini di Boboli, that is Boboli Gardens, where the two used to eat ice cream together in the earlier years. The name is just the beginning, the sense of meaning and past times gives this restaurant that personal touch that brings out its culture.

This little treat in Kibworth Harcourt offers a lively, spacious and friendly atmosphere, where families are welcome yet intimate couples can eat in style equally.

Boboli is a versatile place to celebrate any special occasion, offering a truly mouth watering selection of lunches and evening meals. The restaurant even looks after those early birds – morning coffee and pastries from 10.00 am and the doors remain open throughout the afternoon offering Italian tapas and Piadini.

Looking at the menu, a somewhat surprising difference from Firenze, it boasts traditional pizzas made with the premium pizza flour of Napoli and fabulous pasta dishes to match, not enough? Roll this into sizzling steaks, fresh fish and superb desserts, and then you can’t be left wishing.

The wine list is also a true reflection on all things Italian, as expected from our Firenze experience, it offers a good listing of the Italian favourites, as well as really good quality, low cost-house wines.

As we left I even learnt that Sunday lunches had been introduced to Boboli diners, serving until 4pm, combining the best of Italy and a touch of British tradition.
Don’t forget to pick up the ‘IL GIORNALE’ when visiting, this will tell you all you need to know on these two fabulous hide-outs on either side of the A6.

Whether it is, a casual meal for two, intimate dining experience, a family occasion, birthday, breakfast, lunch or dinner and the list goes on. This place is simply

“the complete package offering something for everyone”

ASCOUGHS BISTRO Market Harborough
Stylish & Relaxing Dining Experience!

We ordered selection to share, and whilst waiting for head chef and owner Chris to prepare our food, we soaked in the busy atmosphere and custom a ‘TUESDAY LUNCHTIME’ was bringing….surprisingly!

Before we had barely begun the usual chit chat the food was served. The Ballotine of Salmon &
Prawn was delightful and The Seared Scallops appeared to be polished off the plate the quickest!

Next out was the Breast of Chicken and Slow Cooked Pork Belly along with accompaniments,
both portions were plentiful and very tasteful. Being not one to pass on dessert, we sampled
Raspberry Romonov and The White and Dark Chocolate Terrine, each one appealed to both
our tastes and needless to say – barley touched the fork!
Before the friendly waiter had time to clean down we were full of praise with empty plates
to prove it!
After this dining experience, the ‘surpr isingly ’ busy Tuesday lunchtime isn’t that surprising anymore!

When opening in 2005, the focus has been about progression, there is an emphasis and belief that Ascoughs is too busy to go and visit as it generally has a 5-6 week waiting list for Friday and Saturday nights, yet this isn’t the case, seating times have now been allocated allowing a lot more seatings during a shift as well a cancellation list being implemented allowing people to be placed if a table becomes available.

The reasonably priced set menus are changed month on month allowing you to dine more
regularly.
All the dishes are cooked freshly on the premises and nothing is bought in ready made! Not even the ice cream!

So for food in a hurry, a business lunch or meeting, an intimate meal for two, or even a friendly get together, Ascoughs Bistro offers fantastic cuisine, friendly service and a relaxed atmosphere in which to enjoy your dining experience.

The Financial Times wrote “One of the finest Italian restaurants in England, with an immaculate, ever changing ‘all Italian’ wine list with food that reminds one of how food really should taste” Although we’re certainly proud of our reviews, they really don’t give you a full understanding of Firenze – great food, great wines, relaxing atmosphere and friendly people.  There’s Italian and then there’s Firenze
